Jharkhand: ‘Train passengers pushing up Covid count in Jamshedpur’ | Jamshedpur News – Times of India

JAMSHEDPUR: Out of 800 samples tested at the Tatanagar station, 120 came positive for Covid-19 on Monday till noon and they were taken to state-run MGMMCH in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
Sources said that those with mild symptoms will be sent home and others will be shifted to Covid wards of various hospitals.
Tapan Kumar Mandal, who is in charge of the health team at the station, said that the number of cases will increase further as more trains stop at the station later in the day. On Sunday, around 2,000 passengers were tested at the Tatanagar stations of which 83 were found positive. The total number of Covid positives in the district were 621 on Sunday.
According to the health department sources, 1,218 on the same day recovered and went back home from various hospitals. Sources also said three Covid-related deaths were reported on Sunday. Records point that a large section of the Covid positives in Jamshedpur are those coming here by train or by road from elsewhere.
The administration inspected the checkposts at various places which are entry points to the Steel City. At many places, the non-functional thermal guns were replaced and officials present were directed to be more vigilant. The medical fraternity here has pointed out that the government should be equipped with more vaccines as many of the senior citizens will complete their nine-month gap soon and will look for the booster doses.
Former doctor of MGMMCH, Dr Anita Banerjee said more centres should be opened for senior citizens for booster doses. She said more vaccines are required along with a medical team to inoculate the beneficiaries.
