Jharkhand: One Maoist killed in encounter with security forces in Jharkhand, search operation underway in the area

A fierce encounter broke out between security forces and Maoists in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district on Thursday. One Maoist was killed in the encounter, while another was arrested. Giving information about this, the police said that they acted on a tip-off about Maoist presence.

18 Maoists were reported to be present in the Korbo forest
He said that the presence of 18 Maoists led by self-styled commander of CPI (Maoist) Ravindra Ganju was reported to be present in Korbo forest following which Jharkhand Police and CRPF launched a joint operation.

A senior police officer said that on seeing the security forces, the Maoists started firing indiscriminately, to which the security personnel retaliated and an encounter broke out between the two sides. According to him, the Maoists fled into the dense forest during the encounter.

Security forces caught during the search operation
He said that after the encounter, security forces during a search operation nabbed two Maoists, one of whom was identified as self-styled commander Chandrabhan Pahan. According to him, he was taken to Sadar Hospital in an injured condition where he was declared brought dead. According to the official, the second Maoist has also been identified as self-styled commander Govind Birija and both were carrying a reward of Rs five lakh each.
