Jharkhand: Eight Maoists surrendered in Jharkhand, all aged between 18 and 22

Eight Maoists linked to CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member Mishir Besra surrendered before the security forces here on Wednesday. All the members of the banned outfit, including the three women, who surrendered before Jharkhand Police and CRPF officials, are in the age group of 18 to 22 years, police said.

IG (Operations) Amol V Homkar informed that all of them are wanted in several cases and the sustained campaign by the security forces couple coupled with the lucrative surrender policy of the state government prompted them to surrender. Mishir Besra alias Sagar has a reward of one crore rupees on his head.

He told that Jharkhand Police, Central forces are trying to eliminate Naxalites from Jharkhand. 4 January 2023 is important for Jharkhand Police and CRPF, as eight Maoists have surrendered. He said those who surrender would be given rehabilitation facilities under the government’s scheme to bring Maoists into the mainstream of society. They will be given vocational training under the policy.

Naxalites who surrendered include Sarita alias Mungali alias Sarita Sardar alias Sanita (20), a resident of Raijama in Seraikela-Kharsawan district. There are six cases registered against him. Somwari Kumari alias Tony alias Sonari Munda (21), another woman Maoist who gave up arms and a resident of Tamar in Ranchi, has two cases registered against her. The third, known as Sanju Purti alias Roshni Purti (19), is a resident of Chiriyabera in West Singhbhum. Police said the others who surrendered were Jairam Bodra (21), Martam Angaria (21), Tungir Purti (18), Patar Koda (18) and Kusu Sirka (22).
