Jabalpur New Life hospital fire: A massive fire has engulfed a hospital in Jabalpur. According to reports, 10 people have been killed and 23 others injured in the fire that broke out at the New Life Medicity Hospital.

Several fire brigade teams are at the spot trying to control the blaze and evacuate patients from the medical facility, police said.

The fire erupted at New Life Multi-speciality Hospital near Damoh Naka under the Gohalpur police station area of Jabalpur in the afternoon, Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Bahuguna informed.

Prima facie it appears a short circuit caused the blaze, he said, adding a rescue operation was on at the hospital.

Speaking on the incident, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “Sad news has been received of a horrific fire accident in a hospital in Jabalpur. I am in constant touch with the local administration and collector. The Chief Secretary has been directed to keep an eye on the entire matter. Every effort is being made for relief and rescue.”

“Heart is saddened by the news of the untimely demise of precious lives in the fire accident at New Life Hospital, Jabalpur. I pray to God to give peace to the departed souls and strength to the families to bear this deep loss and speedy recovery of the injured,” he said.

The CM has announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the next of kin of people who lost their lives in the incident.

“Several people died and many casualties were received in a fire that broke out in a private hospital in Jabalpur. This is a very painful incident. I pray for the rest of the departed souls and wish a speedy recovery to those injured in the fire,” said former MP CM Kamal Nath.

“The news of loss of lives due to fire at New Life Multispeciality Hospital, Jabalpur is saddening. May God give peace to the souls of those who died in this accident and strength to their families to bear this loss. I wish a speedy recovery to the people injured in the accident,” said Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
