Violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur on May 3.

On Monday, Assam Rifles, BSF and police were searching for weapons and insurgents in Manipur’s Suganu and Serro areas. During the search operation, there was intermittent firing between the security forces and the rebels throughout the night, in which a BSF jawan was seriously injured. He died on Tuesday.

The Spear Corps of the Indian Army said in a statement that two soldiers of the Assam Rifles received bullet injuries. These injured were airlifted to Mantripukhari. Search operation is going on in the area.

In the violence that began on May 3, 98 have died, 310 have been injured. At the same time, more than 37 thousand people have been sent to relief camps. 11 districts have been affected by the violence.

Violence flared up again on Monday
Violence broke out once again in Manipur. Some people set fire to 100 houses in Sero village of Kakching district. It also includes the house of Congress MLA Ranjit Singh. Clashes have been going on in the state since May 3 between the people of the Meitei and Kuki communities.

On the other hand, the security forces recovered 790 arms and 10,648 ammunition on Monday. These weapons were looted from police offices during the caste riots that broke out on 3 May.

petition reached supreme court against internet ban
A fresh petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on Monday against the suspension of internet services in violence-hit Manipur. Advocate Chongtham Victor Singh and businessman Mayengbam James have said in their petition that their lives and livelihood have been badly affected by the state-wide internet shutdown. It is harming the daily life of the people and their fundamental rights.

Search operation is going on from June 2
Amit Shah reached Manipur on May 29 on a four-day visit. On the last day of the tour (June 1), Shah told people in Manipur not to pay heed to rumours. Those possessing weapons will have to surrender before the police. Shah had said that the search operation would start from June 2. If anyone is found with weapons, strict action will be taken. After this, the miscreants started surrendering weapons.

Formation of a 3-member commission to investigate the violence
The government has constituted a 3-member commission to probe the violence. It will be headed by former Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Ajay Lamba. The commission will inquire into the cause, spread, riots of violence in Manipur and submit its report within six months.
