Instagram adds ability to quietly post from your Mac, PC; iPad functionality still limited

Facebook-owned photo sharing platform instagram has quietly rolled out the ability to create and publish posts from your desktop website. New functionality also includes the ability to use filters and edit photos and videos. The new feature was spotted by noted tipster Matt Navarra. The new feature is currently only available in . being issued for Mac and PC, but no ipad. Those who got the new feature will see a new pop-up alert at the top of their screen on the Instagram homepage after logging in. The new alert says – “You can now create and share posts directly from your computer.” separately, instagram has started testing options to get a live feature to mute and disable videos, like suggested posts in users’ main feed, the ability to hide the same number.

It is unclear how widely the new feature is available on Instagram, but it is currently said to be rolling out for Mac and PC. Navara also shared screenshots of what the Instagram interface looks like when posting from a desktop computer on her Twitter. To create a new post, users need to see the “+” icon on the top right corner of their screen to get started, then follow the prompts to upload their photos or videos. Users can either drag and drop files, or they can “select from computer”. Then, users must choose a size and format, choose a filter, add a caption/location if they wish, then click ‘Share’.

The functionality is not yet available on the Apple iPad. A report from 9to5Mac states that requesting Instagram’s desktop site on Safari on an iPad doesn’t bring the functionality to Apple tablets.
