India’s Omicron Tally Nears 600-Mark, Highest Cases Of Variant Reported In Delhi

New Delhi: India has registered a surge in Omicron cases as the country’s tally reached 578 on Monday. India has reported 6,531 new cases and 7,141 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The active caseload currently stands at 75,841. The recovery rate of the country is currently at 98.40%

The highest number of Omicron cases has been registered in the national capital Delhi so far taking the tally to 142.

Omicron In Kerala

With 19 more people testing positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Kerala, the total number of infections by the new variant in the state reached 57, the Health Department said on Sunday.

Of the 19 cases, 11 were detected in Ernakulam, six in Thiruvananthapuram and one each in Thrissur and Kannur.

Of the 19, four each had come from the UK and UAE, two each from Qatar and Ireland and one each from Spain, Canada, Netherlands and Ghana, a Health Department release said.

The remaining three got infected via contact.

The department advised everyone to be extra vigilant in view of the rise in Omicron cases in the State.

Madhya Pradesh reports Omicron cases for the first time

With the addition of 41 cases, the COVID19 tally in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday rose to 7,93,696, health department officials said. The state also reported cases of the Omicron variant of the virus for the first time, after nine foreign returnees were found infected in Indore, and seven of them have already been discharged post-recovery, according to the state health bulletin.

The coronavirus infection recovery count in the state increased to 7,82,912 after 21 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, the officials said.
