Indianapolis natives help feed Ukrainian refugees in Poland – Henry Club

Indianapolis – As refugees continue to flock to Poland in search of safety, among them is a Hoosier who volunteered to travel thousands of miles to do what he could to help.

Brian Rund, an Indianapolis native, is helping feed nearly 10,000 people a day through an organization where it is most needed.

He traveled 47,000 miles to Krakow, Poland, to help feed Ukrainian refugees.

“It’s real, I think if there’s one word that summarizes it, you personally see it as real,” Rund said.

He’s there demonstrating hoosier hospitality, and he wants to put his money where his mouth is.

“I could just write a check and call it good, and that’s great,” Rund said. “It’s great, but I love cooking, I love feeding people, I love traveling, learning about new places, and I have a lot of vacation time. I said, ‘You know,’ Well, I’m just going to do it’.”

Rund said Poland has taken in about 2.5 million refugees, and they have their work cut out for him.

“Four slices of cheese, 10 slices of salami, a few tablespoons of this sandwich sauce are mayonnaise, mustard, and oregano,” Rund said. “Then it is on this big nice pretty bun made by a local bakery.”

The sandwiches are bigger, with the hope that refugees can stay full for longer.

Rund said the situation is not getting better, but says there is plenty of evidence of good. A community coming together to support Ukrainians.
