Moscow Concert Hall Attack

On the night of March 22, a few assailants stormed into a concert hall in Moscow, opened fire at the people gathered there, and set the venue on fire in the “heinous” terror attack, claiming the lives of more than 60 people and injuring over 100. The people had gathered there for a performance by the Russian band Picnic when the assailants raided the concert hall and left it in flames with a collapsing roof.

After the attack, the Islamist State Group claimed responsibility for it in a statement released through affiliated social media channels.

According to news agency AP, US intelligence officials had warned Russia about the attack as they had received intel on the Islamist group’s Afghanistan branch planning an attack in the Russian capital.

The attack occurred in Russia as the country entered into its third year of war with Ukraine this year.

Sergei Sobyanin, the Mayor of Moscow, described the attack as a “huge tragedy.”

Kremlin stated that Putin was informed minutes after the assailants stormed into the Crocus City Hall, located on the western outskirts of Moscow with a seating capacity of 6,200 people.

As per some Russian news reports, the fire that broke out after the attackers threw explosives might have also trapped more victims inside the hall.
