India has rejected America’s International Religious Freedom Report 2022. India said – America’s report is based on wrong information. The US State Department’s 2022 report on religious freedom around the world was released by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on 15 May.

It was said in the report- Attacks on minorities are increasing in countries like India, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia. On this, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi replied. Said in response- This report is based on baseless information of American officials. These biased comments by some US officials are working to reduce the credibility of such reports.

What was said in the American report…

  • State governments in India do arbitrary things against minorities, especially Muslims.
  • In many states the police arrested people of Christian faith saying that they were converting Hindus.
  • The report said- United Nations (UN) Special Envoys on the issue of housing, minority issues and religious freedom had expressed concern over the violence in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh in June 2022. He had said – the state government had arbitrarily acted on the Muslim minorities. Their houses were demolished. In fact, last year there was stone pelting during Ram Navami procession in Khargone. While taking action, the government had demolished many houses and shops. They were said to be related to stone pelters.
  • The Delhi violence in 2020 was also mentioned in the report. In this, citing a Citizen Community report released in October 2022, it was said – Police beat up the Protesters. Most of these protesters were Muslims.

Last year i.e. in 2021, America had given this statement regarding religious freedom…

India had said – vote bank politics is happening in international relations
India also rejected America’s International Religious Freedom Report 2021, saying that it is unfortunate that vote bank politics is being done in international relations. No conclusion should be drawn on the basis of talks and thoughts inspired by vote bank politics.

Hate crime happening in America was mentioned
On the religious freedom report that came out in 2021, India mentioned the cases of racial violence and firing in America. Arindam Bagchi had said- India as a diverse society respects religious freedom and human rights. In talks with America, we have drawn attention to the issues there.
