India logs 13,154 new Covid-19 cases, 43% higher than yesterday; Omicron tally at 961 | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India logged 13,154 new Covid cases, 43% higher than yesterday, while the active cases rose to 82,402,according to the Union health ministry data updated on Thursday.

There are a total of 961 Omicron cases now in India, the most in Delhi, at 263 cases.
The death toll climbed to 4,80,860 with 268 fresh fatalities according to the data updated at 8 am.

The active cases comprise 0.24 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 98.38 per cent, the health ministry said.
An increase of 5,400 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization on Wednesday warned that A “tsunami” of Omicron and Delta Covid-19 cases will pile pressure on health systems already being stretched to their limits.
The WHO said the Delta and Omicron variants of concern were “twin threats” that were driving new case numbers to record highs, leading to spikes in hospitalizations and deaths.
The WHO said new global cases had risen by 11 per cent last week, while the United States and France both registered record daily case numbers on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, in a massive spike, Delhi on Wednesday reported 923 cases of Covid-19, an 86 per cent jump in cases from the previous day and the highest since May 30. There have been no related deaths in the city in 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.10 per cent. It has been less than 2 per cent for last 87 days.
The weekly positivity rate was also recorded at 0.76 per cent. It has been below 1 per cent for the last 46 days, according to the health ministry.
The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. The last 24 hours saw a total of 11,99,252 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 67.64 crore (67,64,45,395) cumulative tests.
Meanwhile more than 149.70 crore (1,49,70,76,985) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt. of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category and more than 16.93 crore (16,93,09,031) balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
Moreover, with the administration of 63,91,282 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 143.83 crore (1,43,83,22,742) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 1,53,47,226 sessions.
