In India, We Are Witnessing The Emergence Of New Space: ISRO Chief Ahead Of IAC 2022 In Paris

The International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the world’s premier global space event, is an event where all global space actors come together. This year, the IAC will be held in Paris from September 18 to 22. Each year, the event attracts more than 6,000 participants, covers all space sectors and topics, and offers everyone the latest information on space. Ahead of the IAC 2022, Dr S Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said that ISRO, New Space India Limited (NSIL), and Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (INSPACe) are very happy to participate in the event being held in Paris.

In a video shared by the Embassy of India in Paris, Dr Somanath said: “In India, we are witnessing the emergence of new space. It is characterised by the active participation of industries, startups, academia in the space activities.”

He added that the operational systems of the ISRO including the launch vehicles, satellite construction, and application delivery are moving from the Indian space agency to the industries.

“We are also seeing the startups taking up newer challenges in building smaller launch vehicles, innovative space applications, and missions,” the ISRO Chief said.

Towards the end of the video, Dr Somanath said: “We welcome each one of you to India to participate in this great journey.”

On September 12, India’s first High-Throughput Satellite (HTS) broadband service was launched with support from the ISRO. Hughes Communications India Private Limited (HCI), a leading provider of broadband satellite and managed network services, announced the commercial launch of the HTS service at an event held in Le Meridien Hotel, New Delhi. Dr Somanath was present at the event.

The IAC offers everyone information about the latest developments in the space sector, and also in academia and industry. Every year, the IAC changes the country, theme, and local organiser. This enables everyone to learn more about, and be a part of the global space scene.

The IAC 2022 theme is Space for @all. The objective is to reach beyond the space community and bring together all communities to offer great opportunities for networking and forging new contacts and potential partnerships.
