Indian Medical Association (IMA) has 3,50,000 members and Trend Nurses Organization of India (TNOI) has 3,80,000 members.

The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development, 2022 will be given to the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Trained Nurses Organization of India (TNOI). The announcement has been made by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust. These medical workers will be honored in 2020 and 2021 for serving millions of people during the Covid pandemic.

The trust’s statement said that while the world appears to be emerging from Covid-19, the virus has not disappeared and may still make a comeback. Millions of people around the world lost their lives due to Corona, families were destroyed and society and economy were badly affected. This effect will take a long time to fully recover.

Saved the lives of patients by risking their lives
The statement said that for the first time in India, it was seen how doctors, nurses, paramedics, staff and volunteers stepped forward to deal with a pandemic that they had never seen before. These people worked long hours without thinking about themselves. Many doctors and nurses lost their lives. They put themselves at risk to serve patients for long hours, regardless of the cost to themselves and their families. Their contribution, their excellence, their commitment and their tenacity deserve recognition.

The jury of the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development, headed by former CJI Shri T.S. Thakur, has chosen the award to appreciate the work done by the Covid warriors of India during the worst times of the pandemic during 2022 and 2021. As there is no national representation of medical workers, the jury invites the two organizations that most widely represent doctors and nurses in India to accept the award.

3,50,000 members in IMA and 3,80,000 members in TNOI
The first organization is the Indian Medical Association (IMA), which has 1700 local branches in 29 states and union territories and 3,50,000 doctors as its members. The second organization is the Trend Nurses Organization of India (TNOI). It has about 3,80,000 members.
