RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine on February 24. Russia’s military has launched hundreds of missile and artillery attacks on cities and other sites across the country.

At least 331 civilians have been confirmed killed since the fighting began, but the true number is probably much higher, the UN human rights office said. Meanwhile, more than 1.5 million people have fled Ukraine, triggering a massive refugee crisis.

While Putin has claimed the ‘military operation’ is aimed at defending Ukraine’s Russian-speaking communities against persecution and preventing the United States from using Ukraine to threaten Russia, the West has called his justification a baseless pretext for war”.

The US-led Nato has provided arms to Ukraine and imposed economic sanctions on Russia over the last ten days in a bid to get Moscow to halt its offensive.
