On January 24, 2023, Sophia Ahmed of Kanpur tweeted a tweet with the above caption. He also posted a video pleading for help from PM Modi and CM Yogi.

Let’s go to the month of June in the first year of 2015 and know the story of Sophia, who was a member of Minorities Commission from BJP, in her own words. Along with this, Kanpur will also follow the words of the commissioner who helped Sophia legally.

In the year 2015, Sofia and Sharik were married in a royal way.

At the wedding, my parents gave me a BMW car, spending Rs 2 crore
Sophia told, “On June 12, 2015, I got married to Shariq Arafat at the States Club in Kanpur Cantt. In the marriage, my parents bought diamond and gold jewelery worth Rs 20 lakh, electronic equipment worth Rs 5 lakh, clothes and clothes worth Rs 5 lakh. Many things were given, including a BMW car. My parents spent Rs 2 crore on the entire wedding. The wedding took place with great fanfare.”

Sophia further says, “I got pregnant just a few days after the wedding. Sharik started fighting with me. He used to beat me every day when he was drunk. Started demanding more dowry from me and my family. My parents had already left no stone unturned in giving. My son was born on 31st May 2016. It was only 14 months of marriage. The news of the fight reached my family. Due to this, the relations between the two families started deteriorating. Don’t know what was my crime. Our son was only two and a half months old. On August 13, 2016, at 3 am, Shariq started quarreling over something. He was intoxicated with alcohol. He threw me out of the house along with my son by pronouncing triple talaq.”

His goons follow him even on the way, threatening him every day.
Sophia further said, “After being evicted from the house, I first lodged an FIR against Shariq and his family. She started living with her son in an apartment in Swaroop Nagar. After the FIR, they started issuing death threats to me. His goons started following me everywhere. Stopped my car. Many a times he came under my apartment and abused me.

They took me back home after requesting for mercy in the family court.
After my complaint with the Kanpur ADG, on 27th August 2016 i.e. 16 days after being evicted from the house, Shariq gave an application for leave in the family court and asked to take me home. In that application many kinds of allegations were also leveled against me. We kept talking in the family court. By the end of the year 2018, I started visiting his house again. Till the year 2021, we lived like husband-wife.

Sophia is currently living in the Habitat Apartment in Kanpur. She says- I am scared all the time.

Said after mother’s death- leave BJP and do your name at home
Sophia further said, “My mother died in 2021. Then I told Shariq that when will I be called permanent at home. Shariq and his family told me that for this you will have to leave BJP and its ideology. My Kanpur apartment will have to be named after me. I had joined BJP in the year 2017. I have also been a member of the Minority Commission from 2018 to 2021.

Shariq Arafat’s sister Ghazala Lari has been a 4-time MLA from BSP and SP party. He has great influence. He also wanted to associate me with his ideology, which I did not approve of at all. When he started behaving like this again, I started staying at my house.

How could he marry without giving a legal divorce? Yes, he told me talaq-talaq in August 2016. Then there was no law against triple talaq in the country. But only after 14 days, he gave an application in the family court to take me back home. Then I stayed with him too. So how did this divorce become legal?

As soon as I came to know about the second marriage, I went to Kanpur Commissioner BP Jogdand. Complained to him. He said- Shariq is getting married second according to Islam. when he got divorced. There was no law against triple talaq then. You get it written by Islamic clerics that this marriage is against Islam.

Sophia further said, “After listening to the commissioner, I went to two different Maulanas. Told the whole thing to the Maulanas along with the documents. Maulana of Lucknow. Masood Hasan Hasani and Fakat Wallahu Alam issued a fatwa declaring it illegitimate according to the Qur’an. He wrote, “According to Islam a man can do up to 4 marriages. But he will have to bear the responsibility of his four wives and children.

These fatwas in favor of Sophia were issued by the Maulanas of Lucknow.

He cannot do second marriage until his first wife and the whole issue is resolved. Don’t divorce him completely. If a person does this without caring about this, then he will be guilty. With the fatwa, Sophia again came to the commissioner and requested to stop her husband’s second marriage. Sophia also said that he can marry anyone privately. Can go to Dubai. Women without divorce are not entitled to second marriage in Islam.

Legally, for the time being, we have stopped Shariq’s second marriage. Further action will be taken by the honorable court. We are always ready to provide legal help.”

Shariq had filed a case of desertion in the family court after Sofia left the house.

Sixth: There was no restriction of any kind on her going anywhere, so she used to fight. Due to the fear of defamation in the society, I kept tolerating all his words.

Seventh: Used to question my character when I came late at night. Used to say dirty things. Similarly, one day she went to her mother’s house crying loudly. Took away all the jewelery and the key of the locker. I myself came after leaving her home.

Eighth: Sophia’s sisters are also like this. A sister has taken divorce from her husband after a dispute. Elder sister committed suicide after quarreling with her husband. His family has made marriage a source of income.
