It is common for employees to take leave and go for job interviews at another company on the pretext of illness. But, the incident in Indigo Company is quite shocking and funny. Here on a single day, hundreds of employees took leave by making some excuse or the other. Due to this the work of the company got affected. 55 per cent of IndiGo’s domestic flights were delayed on Saturday. According to the information, the crew members had gone for a job interview in Air India (AI) after taking leave in the name of being ill.

55% of flights delayed due to staff shortage
According to the Union Aviation Ministry, only 45 percent of IndiGo flights were operated on time on Saturday. 55 percent of the flights reached the destination late. In comparison, Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, GoFirst and AirAsia India operated 77.1 per cent, 80.4 per cent, 86.3 per cent, 88 per cent and 92.3 per cent flights respectively on Saturday.

Interviewing employees taking leave
According to company sources, a large number of crew members took sick leave and left for Air India’s recruitment drive. An industry official said the second phase of Air India’s recruitment drive was conducted on Saturday and most of IndiGo’s cabin crew members who took sick leave went for it.

Salary cut from the time of Corona
During the Corona pandemic, IndiGo had cut the salary of its pilots by up to 30 percent. On April 1 this year, the airline had announced its decision to hike the salaries of pilots by 8 per cent. In case of no disruption, another hike of 6.5 per cent will be implemented from November, it added. However, a section of the pilots remained dissatisfied and decided to organize a strike.

Tata Group’s recruitment is going on in Air India

After successfully winning the bid for the airline on October 8 last year, the Tata group took over control of Air India on January 27. Air India has launched a recruitment drive for new crew members as it plans to buy new aircraft and improve its services.

Industry sources said the second phase of Air India’s recruitment drive was underway on Saturday. Most of the crew members of IndiGo, who took leave in the name of illness, went here.
