hsc: Offline SSC & HSC exams as planned, says Maharashtra board | Pune News – Times of India

PUNE: The secondary school certificate (SSC, std X) and higher secondary certificate (HSC, std XII) board examinations scheduled for February and in March will be held as per the timetable, the state board authorities said on Monday.
Schools and colleges have been given freedom to conduct oral and practical for the exams as per their schedule but the offline exams will be conducted as declared, state board chairman Sharad Gosavi said.
“Schools can conduct the internal exams of students on their own management. The written exams will be held as per the timetable announced earlier. However, based on the situation before the exam, a decision will be made,” he added.
Last year, both the exams were cancelled after several days of uncertainty. The state government first cancelled the SSC board exam in May 2020, but put off any decision on the HSC exam. The board then announced an assessment formula for the Std X students.
Later, in June, the state government cancelled the HSC board exam too in anticipation of the third wave of the pandemic.
The results were declared based on internal evaluation.
The classes for the current academic year started on June 15 online. After the cases started declining, the schools for classes VIII onwards began offline from October 4, 2021.
Last month, the state board announced the timetable for SSC and HSC exams. Accordingly, the HSC exam will begin on March 4 whereas the SSC exam will start from March 15.
Nearly 32 lakh students will appear for the state board exams collectively for SSC and HSC from Maharashtra.
This year, the practical exams will start from February 14 along with oral examination.
The syllabus has been reduced by 25%. Students have been demanding a reduction in the difficulty level of the exam.
Two national boards, CBSE and CICSE, have planned their Std X and XII exams in two terms and will not announce the pass or fail status for the term 1 examination which was conducted in November-December 2020. Their second term exams are likely to be held in March-April, this year. Students have to appear for both term examinations.
However, the state board has steered clear of any such arrangement and stuck to one final exam for assessment.
