But the Congress, which talks of street protests, has become completely weak as an organization. The party has not been able to make president in 6 states including UP, Bihar and Bengal. At the same time, since the election, the Leader of the Opposition has not been able to choose in three states so far. Apart from this, posts in the party’s frontal organization are also vacant for years.
There is no president in UP, Bihar and Bengal
The Congress party has not yet been able to elect a new president in terms of seats in the Lok Sabha elections in the three big states of UP, Bihar and Bengal. Since the 2020 elections in Bihar, state president Madan Mohan Jha had offered to resign, but the Congress could not elect a new president in Bihar so far.
CWC has authorized Sonia Gandhi to change the Congress organization, but so far Sonia has not been able to take a decision.
Same is the case with Congress in West Bengal. After the crushing defeat in 2021, there was talk of a comprehensive change in the state, but even after a year has passed, the new state president has not been able to form the party. The Speaker’s charge in Bengal is being handled by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is also the party’s leader in the Lok Sabha.
A meeting has also been held in Delhi to change the president in Bihar, but the decision could not be taken due to a lack of consensus on a name.
At the same time, after the election results in UP, Congress President Sonia Gandhi had taken the resignation of State President Ajay Kumar Lallu, but even after 15 days, the new President has not been appointed.
Congress faced a crushing defeat in the UP elections under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi, after which state president Ajay Lallu resigned.
Neither Speaker nor Leader of Opposition in Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand
After the election results in Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand, the Congress high command has neither elected the Leader of the Opposition nor has the organization nominated its president in these states. Due to factionalism in Punjab and Uttarakhand, the name has not been finalized yet. Navjot Singh Sidhu in Punjab, Ganesh Godiyal in Uttarakhand and Girish Chodankar in Goa resigned from the post of state president following the instructions of the high command.
After the election results, Sonia Gandhi asked the presidents of UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur to resign.
The post of president is vacant for years in farmer and tribal organization
In the party’s frontal organization Kisan Congress and Adivasi Congress, the post of president is vacant for years. Since the resignation of Nana Patole in 2019, the party has not been able to appoint a president in the Kisan Congress so far. There have been several meetings in the Congress regarding the appointment of the President, but a consensus could not be reached on one name. At the same time, the post of president is vacant in tribal farmer.
At the same time, since the resignation of Sushmita Dev, a full-time president has not been appointed in the Mahila Congress.
Congress is now reduced to only 2 states (Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh). Elections are to be held in both the places next year.
Direct fight between Congress and BJP on 200 seats
There is a direct contest between the Congress and the BJP in about 200 Lok Sabha seats across the country. These include 28 in Madhya Pradesh, 11 in Chhattisgarh, 25 in Rajasthan, 26 in Gujarat and 28 in Karnataka. The Congress is in power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, while the BJP is in power in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka.
