The Jharkhand High Court has rejected the government’s request to adjourn the hearing on PILs against Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The Advocate General of Jharkhand had filed a petition seeking an adjournment.

Two PILs are to be heard in the High Court tomorrow, June 17. Among them, one petition is related to shell companies while the other petition is related to the alleged benefit of mining leases by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan informed the High Court that since he and Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal have tested positive for COVID, it will be difficult for them to attend the hearing.

The PIL against Chief Minister Sorene’s family members and people associated with them has been alleged of fraudulent transactions through shell companies. Earlier, the Jharkhand High Court, in its order on June 3, had said that it is an established fact that petitions cannot be quashed merely because they are not maintainable. The petition has made serious allegations of investment by Hemant Soren, his brother Basant Soren and other close associates in shell companies and through them acquiring properties including hotels, malls and other places.
