The hearing of the case registered against filmmaker Leena Manimekalai over the Maa Kali poster controversy has been postponed till August 29. The judge hearing the case is on leave, due to which it has been taken forward. Leena had depicted mother Kali in an objectionable manner in a film poster and Taylor.

Petitioner Raj Gaurav filed another petition in the court on Saturday. He said that we would like to include some other documents on record, which are related to the opposition’s case and affect their qualifications. During the last hearing, the court had issued summons to Leena Manimekalai on July 11. The court said that it is necessary to listen to the opposition before passing any order.

The petition filed by Advocate Raj Gaurav said that the poster of Leena’s upcoming film Kali has insulted the Hindu goddess Kali. He said that the poster of the film shows Kali Devi smoking a cigarette, which hurts the sentiments of Hindus and is against morality.

Delhi Police had registered a case against the controversial poster. The Indian High Commission in Canada expressed displeasure over this and asked the Aga Khan Museum to withdraw the derogatory images of Hindu deities.

Organizers apologize, ban the screening of the film
The statement of the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the documentary Kali controversy came a few days ago. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had told that the Indian High Commission in Ottawa has issued its statement on the matter. He told that the organizers associated with the screening of the film in Ottawa have apologized. He had also stopped the screening of the film. At the same time, on the FIR being registered on this matter, he had said that this is a domestic matter. It has nothing to do with foreign policy.

An FIR was lodged against filmmaker Leena Manimekalai over the black poster in Delhi, Lucknow, Gonda and Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh, Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh and Muzaffarpur in Bihar. In these, Leena was accused of inciting religious sentiments and demanded her arrest. The BJP had demonstrated in Bengal. On the protest, Mahua had said that she was not afraid.

While launching the poster of Kaali on July 2, Leena told that she is very excited about it, as Kali has been launched at the ‘Canada Film Festival’. The controversial documentary is jointly produced by Tamil Art Collective and Queen Summer Institute.
