Hearing in Supreme Court on Hijab controversy after Holi: Petition filed to challenge Karnataka High Court’s decision

Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde filed an appeal for urgent hearing in the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the Karnataka High Court in the Hijab controversy. In response to this, the court has said that after the Holi holidays, it will consider hearing the appeals related to this matter.

The Karnataka High Court in its decision upheld the ban on hijab. While delivering the verdict on Tuesday, the High Court made two important points. First- Hijab is not a mandatory part of Islam. Second- Students cannot refuse to wear the prescribed uniform of school or college.

Petition filed in the Supreme Court soon after the High Court’s decision
Against this decision of the court, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court. Here, the five girl students, who had filed a petition for the permission of the hijab in the High Court, held a press conference in Bengaluru after the High Court’s decision and said – ‘We will fight for our rights’. He called it an injustice to himself. The girls’ lawyer M Dhar had also said that the Karnataka High Court has disappointed us, hope justice will be found in the Supreme Court.
