The father of an 11-year-old boy, accused of raising provocative slogans in a Popular Front of India (PFI) procession, has been detained by the Kerala Police. So far 20 accused have been arrested in this case. Police said the boy’s family had gone into hiding in Kerala’s Kochi after the altercation.

The incident happened on May 21. During a PFI rally, an 11-year-old boy sitting on the shoulder of a man was allegedly raising provocative slogans against Hindus and Christians. The video of this incident went viral. After this, the police registered a case and started investigation into the matter.

The family was hiding in Kochi
According to a police officer, the boy’s family had gone into hiding in Kochi, Kerala after the altercation. The boy was traced by the police two days after the rally. His father was taken into custody on Saturday while returning home in Alappuzha. In this case, the Kerala government can file a report related to the boy to the Child Welfare Committee.

The boy’s father has claimed that he raised the same slogans during protests against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). He said that we had raised these same slogans earlier. We did not intend to target any religion. This is part of our party activity.

This slogan was raised even during the protest against NRC
Where did you learn this slogan? In response to this question, he said that when I had gone to the program organized against NRC, I had heard it. The boy’s father said that the slogan is only against the Sangh Parivar and not against Hindus or Christians. This slogan was also raised during the protests against NRC and CAA. Mattancherry Assistant Commissioner of Police VG Rabindranath said child welfare officers have been asked to counsel the child who allegedly raised the hate slogans.
