Haryana: 3 hand grenades, IED with about 1.50 kg explosives recovered in Ambala | Chandigarh News – Times of India

AMBALA: The Haryana Police have recovered three live hand grenades and an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to a detonator with about 1.50 kilogram (kg) of explosive substance from an open ground near Sadopur village campus of Maharishi Markandeshwar (Deemed to be) University (MMU) along the National Highway (NH) 152 in Ambala district on Sunday.
The district police of Ambala were alerted by a labourer working near the spot, who first witnessed the explosives lying open in the ground. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot. District superintendent of police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa also reached there besides the bomb disposal squad.
The entire area was cordoned off as a precautionary measure by the police.
On the inspection of the area, the teams recovered three blue colour live hand grenades and an IED attached to a detonator. The bomb disposal squad separated the IED from its detonator by conducting a blast in a controlled environment and seized all the explosives for further investigation after defusing them.
Ambala SP Jashandeep Singh said a case has been registered under the Explosive Substance Act at Baldev Nagar police station on March 20.
SP Jashandeep Singh said, “Three grenades and an IED with explosive substance weighing about 1.50 kg has been recovered from the ground at Sadopur village of Ambala district. The IED was connected to a detonator and timer circuit. The bomb disposal squad separated the IED from its detonator by diffusing it as per the due procedure. All the explosives have been diffused and seized for further investigation.”
To a query, SP Ambala said, “A labourer who worked near the spot saw the explosives while passing from the spot, and his employer informed the police.”
To another query, SP Ambala said, “The district police have registered a case under the Explosive Substance Act to further investigate the matter and ascertain about how the explosive reached the spot at Sadopur village.”
“We will conduct the examination of the seized IED to ascertain what explosive has been recovered. We have informed about the seizure of explosives in Ambala to local Army units, Punjab Police, NIA (National Investigation Agency) and NSG (National Security Gaurd)”, added the SP.
Last month, 232 rusted artillery shells were recovered in an Ambala village leaving the cops clueless.

A case was registered against an unknown person under the Explosive Substance Act at Shahzadpur police station of Ambala on February 25, allegedly for dumping 232 artillery shells of different weights. These shells were also seized by the Ambala police with the help of a bomb disposal squad and reportedly handed over to the Army for disposal.
