‘Had Run Out Of Undergarments…’: J’khand CM’s Brother On Delhi Visit Amid Political Crisis

New Delhi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA and Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s brother Basant Soren was on Wednesday asked about his visit to Delhi, amid recent political unrest in the state. Contradicting other motives associated with the visit, he said that he had gone to the national capital to buy undergarments.

“I had run out of undergarments, so I went to Delhi to purchase them. I get them from there,” Basant Soren said in a video shared by news agency ANI.

The political crisis in Jharkhand began late last month as the BJP sought CM Hemant Soren’s disqualification from the assembly in an office of profit case and the Election Commission (EC) sent its decision to Governor Ramesh Bais on August 25.

Though the EC’s decision was not made public, there were reports that the poll panel recommended the Chief Minister’s disqualification as an MLA.

The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) took its legislators to a resort in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh on August 30 as there was apprehension about the BJP attempting to poach the MLAs in a bid to topple the government.

They returned to Ranchi on Sunday evening to attend the special session of the assembly but stayed the night at the Circuit House in Ranchi.

After winning the confidence vote in the Assembly on Monday, the MLAs moved back to the Circuit House in buses and had lunch with CM Hemant Soren.

Meanwhile, Basant Soren’s statement is sure to get a lot of social media attention courtesy of his unexpected response.
