Gunman kills three in Indiana mall, shot by armed onlookers – Henry Club

Washington, July 18

A gunman killed three people on Sunday before opening fire at the food court of a shopping mall outside Indianapolis, media reported.

The Indianapolis Star quoted Greenwood Police Chief Jim Eason as saying that two other people were injured in the early morning incident at Greenwood Park Mall.

The newspaper reported that police believe a bystander who also had a weapon witnessed the shooting and opened fire on the gunman.

According to the newspaper, the shooter was alone and had several magazines of rifles and ammunition.

Police did not reveal the names of the victims, the gunmen or bystanders. The shopkeepers and the mall staff dispersed on the sound of gunshots or hiding.

The shootings come amid widespread concerns over the drunkenness of American shootings in schools, workplaces and public areas that regularly make headlines.

A series of gun homicides since May at a New York grocery store, an elementary school in Texas and an Illinois Independence Day parade have restarted the US debate over gun rules.

The panel said Friday that the US House Judiciary Committee will consider proposed legislation this week that would ban some assault weapons. The Senate is not expected to pass.
