Gujarat University defamation case: AAP claims: CM Kejriwal and Sanjay have not yet received Ahmedabad court summons

Gujarat University has filed a complaint against Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh’s statement.

Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh were summoned on April 15 by a metropolitan court on a criminal defamation complaint filed by the registrar of Gujarat University. Under the summons, tomorrow i.e. on May 23, both were to appear in the court.

At the same time, now AAP leader Pranab Thakkar claimed that both have not received the court summons. Both the leaders will appear in the court only after receiving the summons.

The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jayeshbhai Chowatia has summoned both the AAP leaders for a hearing held on April 15 on May 23. The judge said that prima facie there appears to be a case against him on a complaint by Gujarat University under section 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Commented on PM Modi’s degree
Kejriwal and Singh made the remarks after the Gujarat High Court ordered quashing of the Chief Information Commissioner’s order asking Gujarat University (GU) to provide information on PM Modi’s degree. According to the complainant, both the leaders made derogatory statements in press conferences and on Twitter handles, targeting the university over Modi’s degree.
