Gujarat police to get technical teeth, 12,000 more cops | Ahmedabad News – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: The law and order department has received 5% of budget outlay at Rs 8,325 crore. The finance minister said that while 29,000 officers and personnel have been recruited in past five years, the process to induct 12,000 more is going on.
Highlight of the budget allocation remained improving technical aspects of policing; Rs 70 crore was set aside for VISWAS project and IT project, Rs 28 crore for hardware and software for eGUJCOP project, Rs 34 crore for automated fingerprint system, Rs 15 crore for modernization, and Rs 2 crore for mobile drug test analyzers.
The state announced that GIFT City near Gandhinagar and Dream City in Surat will get new police stations, whereas outposts on IndiaPakistan border in Kutch including Dhordo, Hajipir and Gagodar will be upgraded to police stations.
For new posts created in the department, the government will allocate Rs 41 crore. Over 2,250 patrol vehicles will be purchased at the cost of Rs 183 crore. New district jails and sub jails will be built for Rs 158 crore.
The state DFS would get loop-mediated isothermal amplification system for quicker and more precise DNA identification.
