Reading QR codes through the AI feature could be useful for many
Circle to Search is available on select Android phones via the Google app which got updated earlier this year along with Samsung phones.
Google has made a major upgrade to its AI-powered feature, Circle to Search which allows your device to automatically scan the barcodes and QR Codes, making it a lot more useful and efficient for retrieving information. The feature was recently introduced along with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series and is also available on select Pixel devices.
Talking more about the new feature, for instance, if a user wants to scan a QR code or barcode, they just need to make sure it is visible on the screen and Circle to Search will automatically scan the code and display a helpful chip that will allow the user to visit the website with a simple tap. The feature eliminates the need to circle QR codes and barcodes in the programme, saving time and achieving outcomes with less effort.
As per a tipster, Mishaal Rahman, the feature was earlier spotted in late June but the tech giant has now finally rolled out for several other users.
Google’s Circle to Search works as a visual search tool, analysing what’s on your screen and providing information based on what you highlight or circle.
Apart from the barcode and QR code scans, the tech giant has also introduced a feature to help discover new music. “Whether it’s a song playing on social media from your phone or music playing from speakers near you, simply long-press the Home button or navigation bar to enable Circle to Search, then tap the music button to identify the track name, artist and even launch a YouTube video to explore more,” said Google.
Furthermore, Google has launched a new feature that allows users to listen to the web pages on Chrome. Users can also customise listening speed, type of voice and language. Additionally, the new Talkback feature, designed especially for the blind and for people who have low vision, will use Gemini models to make audio descriptions of digital images more accessible.
“Whether you’re looking at online product images, photos on your camera roll, pictures in text messages, or images of what’s happening on social media, the Android screen reader employs the best features of Google AI to bring pictures to life,” as per Google. Also, the company is rolling out the Android Earthquake Alert feature in the US.
