Kanpur: The famous Ganga Mela of Kanpur will be held on March 23 while Holi festival will be celebrated on March 17 and March 18.
In a review meeting held here on Saturday, district magistrate Neha Sharmadirected the Kanpur Municipal Corporation officials to pour clay for clay beds at places where ‘Holika’ would be burnt in order to protect roads. She also made an appeal to the organizers of ‘Holika Dahan’ to contact the KMC staff for pouring clay on roads.
She has asked the Jal Nigam authorities to ensure high-speed water supply from all water supply stations and also arrange generators for power backup. She directed the Kesco officials to tighten all hanging power wires on the Hatia Ganga mela route. An ambulance and a team to repair power lines should be present in the procession on the occasion of ‘Rangon ka thela’ (Ganga Mela).
The DM told the health department officials to keep in active mode all hospitals, community health centers and ambulances on the day of Holi and Ganga Mela. She asked the KMC officials to clean Sarsaiya Ghat, the venue of Holi Mela.
All sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) should convene meetings at police stations under their jurisdiction in this connection, the DM said.
