The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded in Dubai at the Coca-Cola Arena on Tuesday, December 19, featuring several star players landing lucrative contracts while others faced the disappointment of going unsold. Making history, Australian teammates Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins emerged as the two most expensive players, fetching INR 24.75 Crore and INR 20.5 Crore respectively.
However, unsold players were given a second chance in the accelerated auction process. Those unsold in the initial round were reintroduced for bidding. While some found new teams, others remained without buyers. Notably, players unsold by the end of the day may only join the 2024 IPL if signed due to injuries during the tournament, provided they were part of the auction.

1. Steve Smith – Despite his base price of INR 2 Crore and consistent performances for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League 2022, the star Australian batsman went unsold, even in the accelerated round.
2. Philip Salt – The hard-hitting English wicketkeeper-batsman, known for his recent impressive performance against West Indies, scoring 109* (56), surprisingly found no buyers despite his base price of INR 1.50 Crore.
3. Josh Hazlewood – The sought-after Australian fast bowler, renowned for his consistency across formats, remained unsold due to his unavailability in March-April. Hazlewood is expecting his first child and plans to join after the first week of May.
4. Josh Inglis – Despite his stellar performance, scoring a century in the first T20I against India, the Australian wicketkeeper-batsman failed to attract buyers, staying unsold with a base price of INR 2 Crore.
5. Tabraiz Shamsi – The esteemed left-arm wrist spinner, excelling in T20Is with impressive statistics, including a recent Player of the Match award against India, surprisingly went unsold with a base price of INR 50 Lakh.
6. Jimmy Neesham – The New Zealand all-rounder, entered the IPL 2024 auction with a base price of 2 crores. Unfortunately, his entry into the auction occurred later, and most teams had already allocated their budgets towards their primary player choices, likely contributing to his absence from any IPL contract this season.
