Prayagraj: Ahead of the announcement of state assembly results, traders dealing in flowers and bouquets in trans- Ganga and trans-Yamuna pockets received orders from the activists of various political parties who booked for garlands of roses and marigold varying of different weight and sizes and bouquets, in advance, to welcome their winning leaders in the region.
The results of assembly polls will be announced on Thursday (March 10). Traders admitted that activists of political parties have asked for the deliveries on Thursday itself. Mukesha trader dealing in flower business said, “Traders have done brisk business this year due to state assembly polls.”He added that demand for their produce increased manifold during rallies and canvassing period.
Customarily, the demand of flowers and decorative plants was acknowledged during festive and wedding season but assembly elections also brought a silver lining to the floral industry as the demand went up exponentially in the wake of increasing number of political rallies by parties and candidates, claimed traders. Amit, a florist at Rambagh flower mandi said, “Demand for flowers was not only made from Prayagraj but adjoining districts of Pratapgarh and Kaushambi also.”
Moreover, flowers’ prices have seen a quantum jump in the last fortnight as the demand has shot off by 30%. Flowers are in full bloom during January-March, and various political parties in the region have already procured and booked large quantity of flower. The sale witnessed maximum jump during rallies and campaigning.
