People have got relief from the heat and humidity due to the knock of rain in most parts of the country. On the other hand, this rain has become a cause of disaster for the northeastern states. Among these too, Assam is facing the most trouble. So far more than 22 lakh people have been affected due to the floods in Assam.

At least 1,934 villages in 27 of the state’s 34 districts are still in the grip of floods. The total death toll from the floods and landslides since April has risen to 174. The situation has improved as the water level in some rivers has receded, but rivers like Brahmaputra, Kopili, Disang and Burhidihing are still flowing above the danger mark at many places.

District authorities have set up 404 relief camps in 23 districts, in which arrangements have been made to accommodate 2 lakh 77 thousand people. Apart from this, relief material is being sent to the flood affected people through 138 relief centers.

SDRF and NDRF engaged in rescue work
Due to the floods, crops have been damaged in 50,714 hectares. Hundreds of houses, roads, bridges, culverts, irrigation canals have been damaged, and millions of domestic animals are also suffering. SDRF and NDRF teams are continuously engaged in rescue and relief work.

Meanwhile, after visiting the flood-affected districts in Assam, the Inter-Ministerial Team of the Central Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs met senior officials of the State Government, Indian Army, Indian Air Force.
