All types of crackers have been banned in Delhi till January 1, 2023. In this, firecrackers will neither be made, stored nor sold. This has been announced by Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai. He wrote in a social media post – To save people from the danger of pollution in Delhi, like last year, all types of firecrackers will be banned this time too. Online sale and delivery of firecrackers will also be banned.

Orders given to officers of 30 departments
The police have also been ordered to keep a vigil regarding the ban on firecrackers. Rai had said in a statement on Monday that the government would be more careful than the steps taken by the Central Commission to check air pollution in the capital during winters. Rai said after a meeting with officials of 30 departments related to it that work has been assigned to all the departments. Along with this, orders have been given to make a plan to reduce air pollution.

Ban was imposed last year also
Last year also, the Pollution Control Committee had banned firecrackers. It ordered a ban on firecrackers till January 1, 2022. Corona and pollution were cited as the reason for the ban.

Pollution is the fourth biggest cause of death every year
Pollution is the fourth largest cause of death in the world. In 2019, 66.7 lakh people died due to pollution. Pollution was the 5th leading cause of death in 2018. Air pollution is causing the highest number of deaths in low and middle income countries.

Apart from this, different chemicals are used for different colors of light in firecrackers. Most of these chemicals are harmful to the environment as well as our health.
