A fire broke out at New Life Multi Specialty Hospital in Jabalpur’s Vijay Nagar at around 3.45 pm on Monday.

A fire broke out in a private hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur on Monday. The three-storey building was completely gutted by the fire. So far 10 people have died in the accident. 13 people have received burns, whose condition is serious. Four of the dead are hospital staff. At least 35 people were present in the hospital at the time of the accident. The death toll could rise further.

According to the police, the fire broke out at the entrance point of New Life Multi Specialty Hospital, Vijay Nagar, Jabalpur at around 3.45 pm due to a short circuit. The fire spread so fast that in no time the three-storey building was completely destroyed. The fire brigade team is engaged in the rescue operation on the spot.

More people have died on the second floor. The injured have been shifted to another hospital. It is being told that while saving the patients after the fire, some people went inside who could not get out.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has expressed grief over the accident. He has announced an assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured.

People trapped on the third floor of the hospital were constantly shouting for help.

The fire brigade personnel reached on the information of the fire and after about an hour of effort, the fire was brought under control. The bodies of 4 people have been pulled out. The hospital has a staff of about 100 people. Management has shifted the hospitalized patients.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed grief over the accident by tweeting and announced compensation for the next of kin of the deceased. The Chief Minister wrote, ‘In this hour of grief, the bereaved family should not consider themselves alone, I and the entire Madhya Pradesh are with the family. The state government will provide assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured. The government will also bear the cost of complete treatment of the injured.
