Every year, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. This year, Father’s Day is being celebrated today on June 16. The day celebrates the joy of fatherhood and honours inspiring fathers or father figures in society. This Father’s Day let’s take a look at South Indian cinema’s superstar dads. Some of these actors have kids who are also established actors while some of them are just young dads.
Mammootty
Mammootty is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in the Malayalam film industry. The veteran actor has worked in over 400 films. Even at the age of 72, he continues to make blockbuster hits. Mammootty married Sulfath Kuttyy in 1979 in an arranged marriage. The couple has a daughter Surumi and a son Dulquer Salmaan, who is also an actor.
Nagarjuna Akkineni
Nagarjuna Akkineni is a popular actor in the film industry. He has won two National Film Awards, 10 state Nandi Awards, and three Filmfare Awards South. He has two sons from his two marriages. His elder son Naga Chaitanya, was born from his first wife Lakshmi Daggubati and his second son Akhil Akkineni, was born from his current wife Amala. Both of them work in Telugu films.
Dulquer Salmaan
Dulqueer Salmaan, fondly known as DQ, made his debut in 2012. Over the decade, he has worked on several superhit films like Bangalore Days, O Kadhal Kanmani, Kurup, Sita Ramam and more. DQ married architect Amal Sufiya in December 2011, and they welcomed their daughter Maryam on May 5, 2017.
Ram Charan
Actor Ram Charan, son of actor Chiranjeevi, made his acting debut with the 2007 film Chirutha. His Oscar-winning film RRR currently ranks as the third-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. He married businesswoman Upasana Konidela in 2012. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on June 20, 2023.
Mahesh Babu
Mahesh Babu is one of the best-known actors and media personalities in Telugu cinema. Mahesh Babu boasts of nine Nandi Awards, five Filmfare Telugu Awards, four SIIMA Awards, and more. He married actor Namrata Shirodkar in 2005. They have two children together, their son Gautam and their daughter Sitara.
Suriya
Suriya is one of the highest-paid actors in Tamil cinema. Suriya has worked on iconic films like the Singam series and the 2005 blockbuster Ghajini. He won the National Film Award for the 2021 legal drama Jai Bhim. He got married to his former co-star Jyothika in 2006. Their daughter Diya was born in 2007 and their son Dev was born in 2010.
