Farida Jalal Credits Success Of DDLJ To Pamela Chopra

New Delhi: On Thursday morning, Pamela Chopra, wife of filmmaker Yash Chopra passed away. Known for her helpful demeanor and generosity, Bollywood celebs paid their last respects to the veteran who supported many behind the scenes. An emotional Farida Jalal also threw light on Pam Chopra and how the latter put in all effort for her son, Aditya Chopra’s debut directorial film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’.

“She was such a darling, a lovely lady. She looked after everything during ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, it was Adi’s first film. He was hands-on with all Yash Chopra films and for his entry movie, Pam was always there, putting up his kitchen, bringing the props, doing everything,” the veteran actor, who played the role of Kajol Devgan’s mother in this cult classic, told ETimes.

Farida went to the extent of crediting DDLJ’s success to Pamela and added, “The film was blessed because of her presence on the set. She was hands-on. I used to watch Yash Ji at one end, and Pamela Bhabhi at the other end, and then Adi and his brother were there on the set. I said, how can this film not be a hit? Look at the family behind it, look at the sentiments. And that happened, what I said came true.” Reminiscing about their time on the sets, the veteran actress added, “She used to sing so well. She would mingle with us in our van, and we would talk about everything. Anupam, Kajol, and me, chatting like family, eating together. The experience couldn’t have been the same without her.”

Pamela’s demise has moved the entire industry. Farida spoke about the grief of losing her and said, “Her cooperation and everything about her is coming back like a big flashback now. I’m really touched and may God bless her. She’s in a better place, so that’s a little consolation.”

Pamela Chopra is survived by her filmmaker son Aditya Chopra and actor-son Uday Chopra. Her son Aditya Chopra is married to Rani Mukerji.
