A case of cyberbullying has come to light in Purnia, Bihar. Through the old video, the ex-boyfriend was threatening to defame the family by making the girl viral. After the matter came to light, the administration is taking further action.

In fact, Purnea District Magistrate Rahul Kumar has shared a post from his Twitter account regarding a cyberbullying. In this, he told, ‘I met a person in the office this evening. He told in a very troubled condition that his daughter’s ex-boyfriend has harassed the whole family by threatening to make the old videochat recordings viral. He even sent that video to him (the girl’s father).

Rahul Kumar wrote, The girl’s father cried and said that our family is not ‘such’ family and our respect will be lost. The superintendent of police sitting next to me took the details of the boy from him. That boy is a resident of some other district. We assured them of speedy and strict legal action. But, at the same time told him one more thing. I told them that no family is ‘like’ and such an incident can happen to anyone. Therefore, first of all, the fear of losing respect has to be removed from the heart. Then thought how patriarchal the whole concept of respect is and how the entire burden of respect (in this case) falls on the victim rather than the accused. The irony is that patriarchy makes men their victims along with women.

Instead of giving proper response to the crime being committed against his daughter, the father seemed helpless and helpless about the respect in the society. Well, don’t tolerate cyberbullying. Your silence does not save your ‘respect’, it definitely increases the courage of such criminal elements.’
