EPF rate slash is BJP’s ‘gift card’ after polls: Didi | India News – Times of India

KOLKATA: Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday slammed the reduction in interest on employees’ retirement savings to a four-decade low of 8.1% as a step that “exposes the crudely lopsided public policies of the current central establishment”, reports Debashis Konar.
In a series of tweets, Mamata termed the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s decision a “gift card” from BJP in the aftermath of its electoral victory in UP. “This is amidst the pandemic-hit financial stresses of middle and lower middle class workers and employees of the country,” she said, adding: “The black initiative must be thwarted by united protests.” Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said the decision to slash the EPF interest rate was the BJP-led Centre’s attempt to bulldoze the common man.
All India Trade Union Congress has already called a nationwide strike to protest the move on March 28-29.
