ED summons Rahul Gandhi for 4th time as Congress workers continue agitation

After an eight-hour questioning on Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Rahul Gandhi for a fourth round of quizzing in the National Herald case on Friday.

Protests continued over Rahul Gandhi’s ED questioning outside the party headquarters on Delhi’s Akbar Road and outside the ED office. Despite prohibitory orders and heavy police barricading, protesters burnt tyres outside the ED office.

Delhi Police detained a total of 240 protesters on the third day of Rahul Gandhi’s questioning at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot was one of the protesters who were detained on Wednesday. Police detained the former deputy chief minister of Rajasthan when he was on his way to party headquarters.

He was taken to the Narela Police Station. Pilot took to Twitter on Wednesday evening and wrote, “Still at Narela Police station, Singhu border.”

Earlier in the day, the All India Mahila Congress workers protesting outside the party headquarters were detained after they tried to march towards the ED office.

CONG ALLEGES COPS BARGED INTO HQ

Congress alleged that some policemen forcibly entered its headquarters and beat up party workers and leaders.

However, Delhi Police denied the claims and said no force was used on protesters. Police said they didn’t go inside the Congress headquarters, but opened the gate to detain one to two protestors.

According to Delhi Police, there were one to two incidents of minor tussles after protestors pushed Delhi Police staff and threw barricades.

Police said all 500 personnel deployed were given strict orders to not use force despite some of the protesters burning tyres.

Police said even though an alternate site of protest was offered by Delhi Police, protestors chose to break the law and the altercation happened only after they resisted detention.

CONG MP MAKES MANHANDLE CLAIM

Indian Youth Congress President Srinivas BV, who was protesting at party headquarters, alleged that he was manhandled by the Delhi Police.

He said he was kicked from behind by police personnel. Lying flat on the ground, he challenged the policemen to take him away.

COPS BASHED WORKERS INSIDE PARTY HQ

Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury alleged that police personnel entered the party headquarters and bashed workers.

“They [Police] have entered our party office. Some day they may come to our homes and start torturing us. This is the height of tyranny, it’s the murder of democracy. They are beating workers inside the office,” he said.

CONGRESS TO HOLD PROTEST IN GUJARAT

The Congress will stage protests across Gujarat on Friday condemning the Delhi police action at the party headquarters, a leader said on Wednesday.

Gujarat Congress president Jagdish Thakor alleged the Delhi Police “raided” the AICC office in Delhi at the behest of the BJP-led Centre to stop the party workers from protesting against the questioning of Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate.
