The 2024-25 season of Indian domestic cricket will kick off with the Duleep Trophy. The prestigious tournament promises to be more entertaining this year, thanks to the involvement of several players from the national side. Apart from senior players like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant, young talents like Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be seen in action in this year’s revemaped Duleep Trophy.
The season’s Duleep Trophy will start on September 5. This will be a four-team tournament, which will played in a single round-robin format. Earlier, six zonal teams used to compete in the Duleep Trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revised the format this year while also making it mandatory for top Indian players to feature in the tournament.
Shubman Gill will lead India A and the squad has some other big names like KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Dhruv Jurel. Abhimanyu Easwaran, a prominent face in the domestic circuit, will be the captain of Team B while Team C will be led by Rutiraj Gaikwad. The IPL-winning captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer, will lead India D featuring the likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Ishan Kishan and Axar Patel.
Earlier, it was reported that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would also compete in the Duleep Trophy. The BCCI, however, later decided to give them rest, perhaps to manage their workload ahead of the Test season.
The fast-bowling pair of Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik have also been removed from their respective teams due to injury issues. The board has also released all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja without citing any reason.
