The Indian Navy and Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Tuesday successfully test-fired the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air VL-SRSAM missile. The missile was test fired at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) located in Chandipur, Odisha. This missile is made in India only.

After the testing, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, Indian Navy and its associated teams. He said that this missile will prove to be a force multiplier for the Indian Navy. This test has been done from a warship of the Indian Navy. During this, the missile destroyed the target midway. VL-SRSAM is designed and developed by DRDO.

Difficult to catch even in radar due to speed
This missile has an indigenous radio frequency seeker, which further enhances its accuracy. This missile is so dangerous that it can rapidly destroy different types of air threats. Its speed and fire power is so lethal that it does not even catch in the radar. Its weight is 154 kg. Its length is about 12.6 feet.

Can attack at a distance of 40 to 50 KM
It is known for its speed, accuracy and fire power. The VL-SRSAM is designed to strike at a range of 40 to 50 km and at an altitude of about 15 km. Its design is based on the ASTRA missile, which is a visual range air-to-air missile.

Enemy can be destroyed by rotating 360 degrees
The specialty of VL-SRSAM is that it can rotate 360 degrees and eliminate the enemy. The testing was supervised by senior scientists from Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Research Center Imaran (RCI), Hyderabad and R&D Engineers, Pune, who helped DRDO design and build it.
