Doctors have to distance themselves from social media. Will not be able to post pictures of patients, their reports.

Doctors will no longer be able to prescribe medicines or give advice to patients on social media. They also have to avoid spending money on social media to buy likes, followers, and to have the name appear on top of the search algorithm. Opinions of patients or their reviews about doctors will also not be shared.

Apart from this, sharing of information about patients who have recovered after treatment or videos and photos of surgery will have to be avoided. These instructions are included in the Medical Practitioner (Professional) Conduct Regulations issued by NMAC on Monday.

  • Doctors desirous of practicing returning from abroad will be able to apply only a degree approved by the NMC. Earlier, MBBS doctors who returned from Russia used to put MD with the name. MBBS degree in Russia is called MD. Now that won’t happen.
  • Doctors eligible to practice Ayurveda and Modern Medicine will be able to practice the same. This is done to prevent crosspathy.
  • Dr. Shankul Dwivedi, a member of the IMA Standing Committee on Junior Doctors, told that written approval will have to be taken for telemedicine. If the patient is less than 18 years of age, then parental approval is required.
  • Medical records can be made available for 5 days. Earlier this period was only 72 hours.
  • Only authenticated information will be shared on social media. There will be no discussion of treatment. If the patient reaches the doctor through social media, then telemedicine consultation or personal consultation will have to be given. Doctors will not be able to post pictures of patients and their reports on social media.
