Joju George is venturing into uncharted territory as he dons the director’s cap for the first time with his upcoming film Pani.

Malayalam actor Joju George is capable of taking on any kind of role on screen — be it comic, serious or any other. Now, Joju George, who has portrayed iconic roles in films, is taking on a new role. This time, he is venturing into uncharted territory as he dons the director’s cap for the first time with the upcoming film Pani. He has also penned the script for the film. With Joju playing the main part and Abhinaya playing the female lead, the movie tells the story of two gangsters in the city of Thrissur.

Under Joju’s production business, Appu Pathu Pappu Productions and AD Studios, M Riaz Adam and Sijo Vadkan are financing the project. Joju George is elated to turn director in the 28th year of his film career. “Acting is one of the things I enjoy the most and even though there is some increased tension, directing is just as enjoyable,” he said in a media interaction recently.

Joju George, who entered the Malayalam film industry as a junior artist in 1995 with the film Mazhavilkoodaram, initially settled for small supporting roles. Soon, he started getting meatier roles once his talent was recognised.

The 2018 film Joseph was a big turning point in Joju’s career. The film, in which he played the lead, was a big success. His performance in the psychological drama film Chola cemented Joju’s position among the Malayali audience. His performance in Joseph and Chola won him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actor of the Year and a special mention (Joseph) at the National Film Award.

Coming back to Pani, the film has an ensemble cast featuring prominent actors such as Seema, Chandni Sreedharan, Abhaya Hiranmayi, Sona Maria Abraham, Merlot Ann Thomas, Lanka Lakshmi, Sarah Rose Joseph, Babu Namboothiri, Prashanth Alexander, Sujith Shankar, Ranjith Velayudhan, Bito Davis, Rinosh George, Ian & Ivan, Anbu, Ramesh Girija, Donnie Johnson, Bobby Kurian, and Bigg Boss fame stars Sagar & Junais.
