CM Punjab Bhagwant Mann has categorically refused to give any kind of stake to Haryana in Panjab University (PU). He said that PU is the heritage of Punjab and he is committed to protect the rights of the state. CM Mann said that even though Haryana is demanding recognition of its colleges from Punjab University. But Punjab is not in favor of any kind of sharing.

It is noteworthy that tomorrow, i.e. on June 5 at 10 am, a meeting will be held between CM Punjab Bhagwant Mann and CM Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar on various topics related to Punjab University under the chairmanship of Punjab Governor BL Purohit at Chandigarh Civil Secretariat. CM Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar has made it clear that if the colleges of Haryana get recognition from PU, then the state government can give 40 percent grant. With this, the financial crisis facing Punjab University will be removed.

CM Bhagwant Mann asked for time for the decision
In the meeting held three days ago, both the CMs had said that the meeting would be held in a very cordial atmosphere. But CM Bhagwant Mann had sought time till June 5 for a final decision. After this, today he has made it clear that the Punjab government is not in favor of giving any kind of stake to Haryana in Punjab University.

Governor BL Purohit kept his side
Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit said that today a lot of development is taking place in the field of education. All governments should work to make education accessible to rural areas as well. He told both the Chief Ministers that the subjects of Panjab University should be taken forward with mutual consent. He has said that the issue of affiliation of colleges of Haryana with Punjab University is not a big issue, it is possible to do it. This collaboration of Haryana, Punjab will certainly be a good start.

Colleges of Haryana should be affiliated with PU
In the meeting, Chief Minister Manohar Lal has said that under the Punjab Reorganization Act, 1966, Haryana State’s share was given in Punjab University. Colleges and Regional Centers of Haryana were affiliated to Panjab University, but it was abolished by issuing a notification on 1973. He said that in today’s era, the colleges of the states are also being affiliated with international universities.
The aim of the National Education Policy is that all educational institutions should cooperate in the progress of the country. The mutual relations of all the states should be further strengthened. Therefore, affiliation of colleges of Haryana should be done with Punjab University, Chandigarh.

Together with the Center, Haryana will take forward PU
Earlier in the meeting, Manohar Lal said that Punjab University is a central university, in which Haryana’s college should also have affiliation. The Haryana government, along with the Centre, will take Punjab University forward so that the university becomes prosperous and its needs are also met.

Grant received from Haryana Government till 1990
For the last more than three decades, grants have been issued to Punjab University by the Punjab Government only. Whereas, till the year 1990, 40 percent grant was also given by the Haryana government. There were many political reasons behind this, but after the grant from Haryana was stopped, grants have been given by the Central Government and the Punjab Government for the operation of Punjab University.

Due to this, the financial condition of Punjab University also weakened. If the Haryana government starts giving grants to PU again, then the university will get financial strength.
