New Delhi: The video of a five-year-old girl lying on the terrace with her hands tied behind her back went viral on social media following which several people demanded action against those responsible for the act, news agency PTI reported. According to police, the incident took place in Khajuri Khas area in Delhi on June 2. Preliminary probe revealed that the girl’s mother tied her hands and legs and left her on the terrace in the scorching heat after she refused to do her homework, police said.
In the purported video that went viral, the girl can be seen lying on the terrace with her hands and legs tied, and she can be heard crying for help and struggling to free herself.
The Delhi Police said after the video went viral, the girl’s family was identified and appropriate action has been initiated.
“After a video of a girl child tied up on the roof of a house surfaced on social media, all possible efforts were made by Delhi Police to ascertain her identity and circumstances. The family of the child has been identified and appropriate action initiated,” the Delhi Police tweeted.

Police have also located the building in Khajuri Khas area and traced the family of the girl. Enquiries are being made and legal action will be taken against the family, a senior police officer further said.
A woman, who shot the around 25-second-long video, alleged that the mother of the child tied her hands and legs, and left her on the terrace in sweltering heat around 2pm.
Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal, sent a notice to Delhi Police demanding an FIR and details of action taken in the incident so far.

Notably, netizens expressed outrage and demanded action against the culprits.
One of the users also tagged Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana and Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal.
“This is HORRIBLE. Please take note of this immediately,” said a user urging the authorities to take action.
Another user said, “Please look into this matter immediately.”
