Delhi News: AAP Faces Major Setback as Legislator Rajendra Pal Gautam Set To Join Congress

In Haryana, amid ongoing coalition talks, the Congress has dealt a blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. AAP legislator and former minister Rajendra Pal Gautam is set to join the Congress today. Rajendra Pal Gautam, a Dalit activist and lawyer, has served as a legislator twice. He defeated a BJP leader in the 2015 assembly elections from the Seemapuri constituency and won against LJP candidate Sant Lal in the 2020 elections. Gautam resigned from his ministerial position on October 9, 2022, following controversy over his remarks at a conversion event, which led to uproar. The BJP labeled his statements as ‘anti-Hindu’ and demanded his removal from the party. In response to the BJP’s criticisms and attempts to target Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Gautam defended his actions, stating that he had not disrespected Hindu deities.
