New Delhi: Delhi Police on Saturday arrested a person who extorted money from a woman he met on social media by allegedly threatening to make her ‘objectionable videos’ public, news agency ANI reported.

According to the report, the accused had met the woman on social media and became friends. He allegedly lured her to strip on video call which he recorded.

“The accused had till now extorted Rs 1.25 lakhs from the victim and later demanded Rs 70,000 by threatening to make her clip public. When the victim denied paying more, the accused sent the video to her husband,” ANI quoted Shweta Chauhan, DCP, Central Delhi, as saying.

Earlier on Friday, Delhi Police arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly demanding private photos of girls he befriended on Instagram.

According to reports, the accused allegedly asked for more private photos from the girls he befriended and after being refused, he blackmailed to leak the photos.

The incident came to light after a 14-year-old girl, fearing her photos and videos that she had shared with the boy might be circulated, informed her father, who in turn registered a complaint at Cyber North police station.

As per reports, police initiated an investigation after obtaining the details of the Instagram profile. Later, they tracked the IP addresses and mobile number to ascertain the identity of the accused. After the accused was identified, the police reached his house. However, since the boy was not present, his father was asked to present his son at the police station.

Later, the accused’s father presented him before the police after which he was arrested.
