Defense Decoration Ceremony: Vice Admiral Satish Kumar awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal, CRPF Constable Vikas Kumar, Group Captain Varun Singh Shaurya Chakra

President Ram Nath Kovind presented the gallantry awards at the defense decoration ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Shaurya Chakra were awarded.

Vice Chief of the Navy, Vice Admiral Satish Kumar N Ghormade has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal. SPO Shahbaz Ahmed was awarded the ‘Shaurya Chakra’ (posthumously) by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Defense Decoration Ceremony in New Delhi. The award was received by his father Abdul Aziz.

Shaurya Chakra to Group Captain Varun Singh

Group Captain Varun Singh’s wife Geetanjali Singh and mother Uma Singh receive the award

Group Captain Varun Singh was awarded the Shaurya Chakra (posthumously) for saving his LCA Tejas fighter aircraft during a flight in 2020. The award was received by his wife Geetanjali Singh and mother Uma Singh. Group Captain Varun Singh lost his life during a helicopter crash on December 8, 2021, in which CDS General Bipin Rawat and 13 others lost their lives.

Odisha Police commandos Debasis Sithe and Sudhir Kumar Tudu were awarded the Shaurya Chakra (posthumously). Debasis’ parents Chhayi and Sanatan Sithe and Sudhir Kumar Tudu’s mother Jwala Tudu received the award from the President.

Constable Vikas Kumar of CRPF was also awarded the Shaurya Chakra (posthumously). The President handed over the award to his wife Nandini Devi and mother Kalesia.

CRPF constable Ajit Singh was also awarded the Shaurya Chakra posthumously. His wife Anita Devi received the award.

The President posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra to Constable Kuldeep Kumar Urawan of 118 CRPF for his gallantry. His wife Bandana Urwan received the award from the President.

Kirti Chakra (posthumous) to Altaf Hussain Bhat
The President awarded Kirti Chakra (posthumously) to Police Constable Altaf Hussain Bhat of Jammu and Kashmir Police. Apart from officers of the army and other armed forces, only Bhat was awarded this gallantry award.
