Defense deal worth 2,971 crores: Defense Ministry orders BDL, Air Force and Navy will get Mk-1 missile

The Defense Ministry on Tuesday signed a deal with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the Astra Mk-1 missile. This deal has been done for Rs 2,971 crore. According to the Ministry of Defense, this missile is capable of air-to-air strikes. This missile is to be given to the Indian Air Force and Navy.

The Defense Ministry said that the Astra Mk-1 is a Beyond Visual Range air-to-air missile. That is, this missile will strike from air to air without coming in the sight of the enemy. Its weight is 154 kg, length is 3.84 m and width is 178 mm.

Such missiles provide stand off range to their fighter jets. Stand off range means to avoid evading your own attack by firing missiles at the enemy.

Till now there was no such missile
Missiles of this category did not exist until now. It is available in many variants. Capable of attacking at any range. The variants currently available can strike the enemy at a distance of 110 km. Along with this, it is technically and economically better than other missiles.

There are many systems available
There are many different systems in this. Along with this, it is also being planned to be installed in Dassault Mirage 2000, Tejas and MiG aircraft in the coming time. The Navy will also assemble the missile in its MiG-29K fighter aircraft.
