Dev Diwali was celebrated on Kartik Purnima today. On this occasion, lamps were donated in the holy cities. In Kashi, Ujjain and Pushkar a large number of devotees came to donate lamps. There is a tradition of pilgrimage, bathing, fasting, worshiping Lord Vishnu-Lakshmi and donating lamps on Kartik Purnima. According to the date, the full moon date is on 7th and 8th November but there is a lunar eclipse on 8th of November, so the lamp was donated on Monday only. Devotees reached Kashi from the evening itself to donate lamps in the Ganges river. On the recently built Kashi Vishwanath Corridor here, a large number of people reached the worship of Lord Vishwanath throughout the day and earned virtue by donating a lamp in the Ganges river in the evening. All the ghats on the banks of the Ganges were seen with beautiful views of lamps. This time in Ujjain, there was great enthusiasm for the lamp donation on Dev Diwali. A large number of devotees reached here to see the recently built Mahakal Lok. After the darshan of Lord Mahakal, devotees donated lamps in the river Kshipra. In Pushkar, Rajasthan, a lamp was donated in the pond here on the occasion of Dev Diwali. A large number of foreign tourists also reached among those who donated lamps.

One should definitely donate a lamp on the last day of Kartik month. It is said in Agnipuran that there is no fast, neither was nor will there be more than a lamp. Scholars say that even in Padma Purana, Lord Shiva has also described his son Kartikeya as the greatness of lamp donation. Kartik Purnima is also known as Dev Deepawali as the deities light diyas on this day. For people, Diwali is celebrated on the new moon day of Kartik, but for the deities, this festival falls on the day of Kartik Purnima.
